About the Event

The Gariwerd Rock Art Management Forum is co-hosted by the Barengi Gadjin Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation and Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owneers Aboriginal Corporation, supported by Parks Victoria and the Nulungu Research Institute, University of Notre Dame, WA, and funded by the Australian Heritage Grants Program and forum partners. 

This forum will provide an opportunity to discuss and share experiences, concerns, and opportunities for Indigenous rangers relating to their own areas, exchange knolwedge on specialist issues and impacts, as well as extending the network of Indigenous rangers specialising in rock art management and building on the 2017 Marnda Gaidirri: Aboriginal Ranger Rock Art Management Workshop hosted by Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation in Karratha, WA. 

It will focus on the management of National Heritage Listed places such as Gariwerd, and include presentations and workshops by rock art and cultural heritage management specialists; knowledge/practice sharing; the development of practitioner resources; and a photographic exhibition. 

Over five days, rangers and Rock Art specialists will be based in the heart of Gariwerd, at the Brambuk Cultural Centre, Budja Budja (Halls Gap), with a mix of other activities presented including site visits, dinners and special events.

PLEASE NOTE:

This event was scheduled for November 2022, due to the recent flood and wet weather conditions, the event has been rescheduled to March 2023. All delegates registered for the November event, have automatically rolled over to the new date.
