The Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk People to represent the Wotjobaluk Nations on its First Peoples Expert Advisory Panel.
About the Panel
In April, MAV launched a significant initiative to centre First Peoples' voices, leadership, and knowledge by establishing its inaugural Expert Advisory Panel. This is a key step in strengthening relationships between local government and Aboriginal communities across Victoria.
MAV has said that it recognises the deep, enduring connection that First Peoples have to Country, culture, and community, and is committed to supporting truth-telling, respect, and meaningful collaboration through this panel.
The panel will provide cultural leadership and collaborative guidance to help shape MAV’s policies, advocacy, and programs. Importantly, it will elevate First Peoples' voices in shaping local government decisions that directly impact community wellbeing.
Your Voice Matters
MAV received nine EOIs during the initial round of recruitment, and the panel has capacity for up to 15 First Peoples representatives.
Currently, there are no representatives from the Wotjobaluk Nations.
This is an opportunity for Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk People, particularly those passionate about cultural governance, community advocacy, and strengthening First Peoples–Council relationships, to step forward and contribute their voice to this important space.
